XVI. sharon van etten & the attachment theory: idiot box

ab heute bis 11. jänner gibts auf radio kanal k eine best of 2025 der community und der musikredaktion zu hören. dazu habe ich auch einen song beigetragen von meinem lieblingsalbum des jahres: sharon van etten & the attachment theory. und ich konnte mich kaum entscheiden welchen. weil in jedem der 10 tracks zeitgeneigte sphärisch-berührende auseinandersetzungen mit existenziellen tehmen bieten: leben & vergänglichkeit, liebe & bindung – und die ganzen schattenseiten, die dazu gehören. siehe auch dieses interview im geo zum thema bindungsstile (und ignoriere den unglücklich gewählten titel). in meiner anmoderation hab ich mehrere songs des albums genannt, die ich besonders mag: live forever, afterlife und finding beauty und wollte die musikredaktion freihändig ihren liebling des albums wählen lassen. das ging am schnellsten, indem ich pik ne zahl zwischen 1 und 10 wählen liess. die 3 wars. der entsprechende dritte song des albums ist idiot box. es geht um fingerspitzen, die scrollen und wischen, tippen und kneifen, statt eine echte sinnliche erfahrung zu machen. ‘haut auf glas’ scheint kontakt zu versprechen und erhält dadurch auch die trennung aufrecht. einsamkeit in einer digitalen menschenmenge. ein eingesperrtes und eingeschlossenes leben in einer blase, aus der wir unsere hand austrecken, sehnsüchtig nach berühren, berührt werden und berührt sein. eine düstre hynme, die zu einer digitalen entgiftungs- und enziehungskur einlädt.

from today until January 11, radio kanal k will be broadcasting a best of 2025 selection from the community and the music editorial team. also contribute a song from my favorite album of the year i did: sharon van etten & the attachment theory. and i could hardly decide which one to choose, because each of the 10 tracks offers contemporary, atmospheric, and touching explorations of existential themes: life and transience, love and attachment – and all the dark sides and shadows that go aong with them. see also this article on the topic of attachment styles. in my introduction for radio, i mentioned several songs from the album that i particularly like: live forever, afterlife and finding beauty, and wanted to let the music editors choose their favorite from the album freely. the quickest way to do this was to have pik choose a number between 1 and 10. he chose 3. the corresponding third song on the album is idiot box. it’s about fingertips that scroll and swipe, tap and pinch instead of having real sensual experiences. ‘skin against the glass’ seems to promise contact and thus also maintains separation. loneliness in a digital crowd. a confined and enclosed life in a bubble from which we reach out our hands, longing to touch and be touched. a dark hymn that invites us to undergo a digital detox and withdrawal process.
