für heute gibt’s – obwohl’s nicht sonntag ist – einen langes instrumental. einen eid, einen schwur oder ein gelöbnis aus japan. oath von mono, einer instrumental-band, die letztes jahr am 20. november in tokyo in der o-east arena ihr 25. jubiläum gefeiert hat. dokumentiert ist das auf dem eindrücklichen live album forever home. bis vor wenigen wochen war ich nicht vertraut mit dieser band. was für ein post rock versäumnis! dank einer playlist, die a. a. williams erstellt, bin ich auf sie gestossen. im märz 2020, kurz bevor das zeitalter prä-covid zuende ging, hat sie im southbank centre, london gespielt und dafür im vorfeld ein mixtape erstellt mit künstler*innen, deren arbeit sie als einflussreich und inspirierend empfindet. dort hab ich mono entdeckt und gefühlt. da hat’s noch 10 weiteren alternative perlen drauf. nun aber wandern wir durch die klanglandschaft von monos oath, die existentielle fragen des lebens aufwirft. es ist eine mediation das thema zeit und leben. mehr wohlwollende reflexion als flüchtige erholung. wir hören neben dem pitreza ochester dahm majuri cipolla am schlagzeug, tamaki kunishi an bass, gitarre, piano und glockenspiel sowie takaakira ‘taka’ goto und hideki ‘yoda’ suematsu an gitarre und glockenspiel. und das geht so.

today – even though it's not Sunday – i’ve got a long instrumental track for you. an oath from japan. mono is an instrumental band that celebrated its 25th anniversary at the o-east arena in tokyo on November 20 last year. this is documented on the impressive live album forever home. until a few weeks ago, i was unfamiliar with this band. what a post-rock oversight! thanks to a playlist created by a. a. williams , i came across them. in march 2020, shortly before the pre-covid era came to an end, she played at the southbank centre, london and created a mixtape in advance featuring artists whose she finds influential and inspiring. that's where i discovered and felt mono. there are 10 more alternative gems on there. but now let’s wander through the soundscape of mono’s oath, which raises existential questions of life. it is a meditation on the theme of time and life. more benevolent reflection rather than fleeting respite. alongside the orchestra pitreza, we hear dahm majuri cipolla on drums, tamaki kunishi on bass, guitar, piano and glockenspiel, as well as takaakira ‘taka’ goto and hideki ‘yoda’ suematsu on guitar and glockenspiel. and this is how it goes.
