III. mia myself & i: walk through the fire
auf mia myself & i wurde ich vor wenigen wochen aufmerksam wegen ihrer aktuellen single around the bend. dort heisst es: was erwartet dich hinter der nächsten biegung? willst du nicht sehen, wo dieser tag enden wird und wer du sonst noch sein könntest? diese behutsam von zwei mühelos ineinanderfliessenden stimmen vorgetragenen eine andere zukunft riechenden zeilen und der wortverspielte bandname habens mir rasch angetan. also wollte ich mehr von diesem paar hören und liess mich entführen in eine welt voll von stiller intensität und tiefer verbundenheit. bislang gibt’s 7 songs. 4 von 2022, 3 von 2025. die älteren songs sind länger, alle 4 über 4 minuten, die neueren kürzer, alle 3 um 3 minuten. eine zeitgeistige erscheinung? die bbc hat das phänomen der kürzer werdenden popsongs ausführlich untersucht und anregend dargestellt. fehlt den kürzen songs der für heute ausgewählten band was? meiner ansicht nach nicht: walk through the fire – das mich natürlich titelwegens an kultige twin peaks erinnert & mir drum ermöglicht, nochmals traurig zu sein, dass david lynch dieses jahr nach hause gegangen ist – erzählt alles, was nötig ist. nichts fehlt… aber mach dir selber ein bild von diesem intimen song, der die schönheit und den schmerz des mensch-werdens und -seins erforscht. das duo, das nun in berlin daheim ist fing während einer einjährigen weltreise durch 27 länder an songs zu schreiben. es sind geschichten über unruhige und verbogene herzen, holprige strassen und leere, weite landschaften. akustisches storytelling trifft auf emotionale aufrichtigkeit – sanft & kraftvoll, reduziert & bewegte bilder im kopf auslösend.

aware of mia myself & i became i only few weeks ago because of their current single, around the bend. it asks: what‘s around the bend? don‘t you wanna see where this day will end and who else you could be? these lines, which lean towards another future and are gently sung by two voices that intertwine effortlessly, and the band’s playful name quickly won me over. so i wanted to hear more from this duo and let myself be carried away into a world full of quiet intensity and deep connection. So far, there are 7 songs: 4 from 2022 and 3 from 2025. The older songs are longer, all 4 over 4 minutes, while the newer ones are shorter, all 3 clocking in around 3 minutes. a zeitgeist phenomenon? the bbchas examined the phenomenon of pop songs becoming shorter in detail and presented it in an inspiring way. is there anything missing from the short songs by the band selected for today? in my opinion, no: walk through the fire – which, of course, reminds me of the cult series twin peaks because of its title and allows me to be sad once again that david lynch moved on this year – says everything that needs to be said. nothing is missing... but listen for yourself how this intimate, songs that explores the beauty and ache of be(com)ing human. the duo, now based in berlin, started writing songs while traveling the world for a whole year and through 27 countries. their stories are ab restless and crooked hearts, bumpy roads and empty vast landscapes. acoustic storytelling blending with emotional honesty – soft but powerful, stripped down yet evocative, conjuring up vivid images in the mind.
